About the journal

The Contemporary Journal is an open-access and digital-first publishing platform developed and edited by Nottingham Contemporary’s Public Programmes and Research. The journal explores the public programme’s research strands, widens and transnationalises its research community, and brings together interdisciplinary modes of enquiry in the fields of critical theory, artistic research, the curatorial, and visual cultures. The Contemporary Journal is committed to different long-term research strands, publishing original research in multiple formats: text, video, audio as well as visual essays. All essays are open access and commons-based.
